Toonie Tuesday

12 08 2008

Today marks our one week anniversary as interns. *hurrah* To celebrate, we did… well, we worked. Pretty’s out of the office for the week, so yours truly will be blogging 2 days in a row.

All else aside, it has been a relatively quiet day. We started off the day brainstorming ideas for forums topics for youthcanada (which is going to relaunch soon). Then everyone branched off and started working on various projects dealing with Microcredit and Youthcanada (especially getting prizes, media relations, and article writing). Imran has edited the video from our guest speakers last thursday and uploaded it on to youtube. We’ll be bringing you that shortly, after youtube finishes processing it.

On top of working hard (hear that Alex, we’re working really hard), we’ve managed to help William brainstorm essay ideas, watch Shads at Dalhousie read love letters to each other (ah, the wonders of youtube, once you do something embarassing, no one’s ever going to forget it), and complain about how cold Vancouver is.

All in all, it’s a good day. Peace V.

All Quiet on the Monday Front

11 08 2008

A subdued day today at the office. Not that many people here today. Pretty is busy all week, Imran had an ortho appointment closely followed by a dental appointment, so he was were for a few hours only. Kelvin came in at about 11 and he, Wendy and myself have been busily working away all day. Things are really starting to take shape. In terms of Microcredit, the website is now fully operational. We’re putting together a hit list of potential sponsors and drafting up the solicitation letter that we’re going to be sending out to them. We’re still deliberating over who the Champion of our Challenge shall be. Meanwhile, we’re busily signing up participants. I pulled off a major coup, having a friend of mine sign up William’s school (with me as the reference). Take that, William!

The YouthCanada website is coming along nicely. We’re working on finding more programs to feature, we’re collecting articles to post, and yeah, everything is coming along peachy.

And yeah, we got a lot of work done today (those of us that were here). His Highness Alex graced us with a lunchtime visit, bringing along a friend, Rhea. ‘Twas a good day, if not the most dynamic one.

Cheers,

Matt

Faceball Friday

11 08 2008

Due to some technical difficulties (with myself being approved as an administrator of the blog), Friday’s post has been postponed a few days. Nevertheless, what an awesome way it was to end the week! After having completed and sent out the information package for the microcredit competition, the team got to enjoy a faceball competition/party with the bootuplabs staff. Unfortunately, yours truly was knocked out in the second round. But oh well, I only lost to the best, as Kimberly (who destroyed me) emerged as the faceball champion of bootuplabs. Quite ironically though, the sign welcoming people to the party said “booze free” on one side, and “with booze” on the other.

The Third Post

7 08 2008

Hi everyone,

Today was our second full day at Bootuplabs. We had two speakers today, Jordan and Michael. Jordan, who works here at Bootuplabs, spoke to us about social media marketing (an innovative way of spreading the word about your business through Facebook, Twitter, blogs, and other forms of online media).  Michael, a physics student at Princeton, described what life is like at an Ivy League.

Both speakers were excellent, and we’ll hopefully upload our video of them by tomorrow. We also had the pleasure of meeting our virtual interns at Impact.

Last, huge congratulations to William for passing his driving test!

Hi Everyone!

6 08 2008

So our 2008 Impact Intern Blog is up and running. We hope you like it. Please visit back often and follow us on our month long journey to discover exactly how much pain is involved in office work :P . Just kidding, just kidding. We’re thrilled to be here at Bootuplabs, and the office is absolutely amazing with its awesome view of the harbour, a “fishbowl” meeting room, a sound proof “theatre” with XBox and Rockband, and some really cool people.

PS. Check out our first day on the job with this video. We sure learned a lot :D
